St. Piran's Day is an auspicious event in the Cornish calendar. This year, Thursday 5 March, it coincided with the completion of a lengthy programme of track re-laying on the Boscarne branch. The Railway's, mostly volunteer, track gang has been out in all weathers, ensuring that our ageing infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose. Life expired wooden sleepers have been removed, and replaced with 510 concrete sleepers and 150 new wooden sleepers. New ballast has been dropped, spread and packed, rail levels and cant adjusted accordingly. This was a considerable achievement for the Permanent Way team, and broke all records for previous winter work and essential maintenance.
